Professor Li Shixin has been involved in Martial Arts education in China
for nearly 40 years.
In 1961 he studied martial arts at the Beijing Institute of Physical Education
and the following year was chosen to be a representative of the Institute's
martial arts team.
Together with other team members they were regularly chosen to perform
exhibitions for various President's and foreign dignitaries. In 1964 he
was appointed captain of the team taking part in the 2nd National Sports
Day held in Beijing. After graduating in 1965 he was subsequently hired
as a full-time faculty member of the Peking University Physical Education
Department.
From 1965 he started judging martial arts competitions and in 1980 be
was named Deputy Director of the National Martial Arts Judges Group eventually
becoming Chief Judge of the National Martial Arts Championships.
Professor Li has been invited to many countries including the US to consult
with and advise the Boston Police Department as well as consignments in
Russia, Japan and Canada. He has visited many other countries giving demonstrations,
managing academic exchanges and providing training for international martial
arts judging. In 1995, he was awarded the official title of Top 100 Masters
in Martial Arts in China, and holds an honorary 10 Dan Black Belt in Karate.
Professor Li is still a member of Peking University faculty and Vice -
Secretary of the Beijing Wushu Research Center, Secretary General of Peking
University's Sports Society and is a committee member of the "Encyclopedia
of Chinese Martial Arts." He is also an official consultant for the
Shaolin Martial Arts Research Association, and the U.S Karate Black Belt
Association. Professor Li has published extensively on the martial arts,
namely 18 Palms of Laohan Shaolin, 13 Style Shaolin Quan, Emei 13 Sword,
and Ancient Way to Keep Fit using his pen name Li Mao.
